It’s a Numbers Game! The Possibility of Winning the European Lottery and Does Anyone Stand a Real Chance

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

The probabilities of scooping the Euro Lotto jackpot is a remote 1 : seventy-six million but the likelihood of acquiring a money prize is a somewhat decent 1 : twenty four. When the jackpot is not won in a given lottery draw, it is carried over to the following lotto draw which results in an ever increasing jackpot value. New regulations brought in on the 09-Feb-07 specify the number of consecutive roll overs to 11, with the jack-pot rolling down to smaller prize levels in the 11th lottery draw if the prize is not won.

The euromillions lottery or the Euro Lottery, as it is ordinarily acknowledged, gathers the lotto ticket revenues of the nine partaking European countries delivering a enormous European Lottery jack-pot. With the sum of countries joining the EU on the increase, this will without question will lead to more states participating in the Euro Millions lottery. An increase in the number of individuals partaking in the Euro Lotto will lead to a prolonged growth of the already enormous European Lottery jackpots.

The recent regulations likewise initiated Euro Lotto Super Draw which happen twice each year and offer jackpots in the region of 100 million pounds. The difference with Super Draws is that the jackpot has to be won during the calendar week of the lottery draw; as a result, when there is no ticket corresponding, all the numbers drawn and the top prize will be allotted to the ticket bearer(s) on the next winning prize level.

Every player must select five main numbers from one to fifty plus two Lucky Star numbers from 1 to 9. During the lotto draw, five primary and two lucky star numbers are then chosen at random from 2 lottery draw machines containing numbered balls.

Your First Ironman? Some Common Bike Mistakes to Avoid

Monday, April 27th, 2009

No matter how hard you train for your first Ironman race, it won’t necessarily guarantee that you will reach the finish line if you don’t pay attention to details.

When it comes to your bike, there are mistakes that are made over and over again by triathletes new to the Ironman and hopefully I can point them out to you and help you realize your Ironman dream. Some of these mistakes I’ve made myself over the years, and I’ve had to learn the hard way.

Don’t have your bike tuned up a few days before the big race. I would suggest 3 or 4 weeks would be the best time, so you can put in some mileage on it to make “sure” that everything is working the way it should. You don’t want to be out on the bike course race day and find out the mechanic doesn’t have the gears set properly and your chain comes flying off as soon as you stand up on the first hill. It happens. All you should really do the last few days is give your bike the best cleaning possible and make sure its lubricated properly. If its shifting o.k. and the brakes work fine, don’t mess with it.

This goes for your fit on the bike as well. Race week is not the time to be adjusting your seat height or moving your handlebars. Go with the way it was set all through your training.

On average, the chances of getting a flat tire sometime raceday is pretty slim. However, every race you will see people who “do” have flats. As much as it bugs you, take the time to learn how to the change a flat properly. Do it over and over again in your living room. Practice on the back tire. Don’t worry about the front. If its your first Ironman, and you’re just trying to make the 17 hour cut-off, you don’t want to be spending 30 minutes on that tire change. It could ultimately cost you reaching the finish line in time to be recorded as an official finisher. Every year there’s people who miss the cut-off by minutes.

If you’ve trained for months and months and have come to rely on your bike computer for cadence, distance and speed etc., be SURE that your battery isn’t going to quit on you 10 miles into the bike. I would spend the ten bucks and put in a new battery for the race.

Also, new battery or not, make sure the computer is working properly on your last bike ride when you get to the race venue. Sometimes travelling can knock the sensor out of alignement with the wheel and it won’t work properly or not at all. This used to happen to me all the time when I travelled by car to the race and had my bike on a rack.

If your race is in a very humid, hot destination, I would suggest NOT pumping your tires up over 100. Just put in 70 or 80, go to the start area early on raceday and THEN pump the tires up to your race setting. If its really humid, tires can expand overnight and burst if they’re pumped up to the max. Don’t worry about dragging a bike pump to transition. Without fail, every Ironman race I’ve ever done, the race organizers have plenty of pumps around and someone to help you. (usually from the local bike shop).

I would really suggest you have “two” spare tubes with you(or tires if you use sew-ups)for the race. Should you get one flat, you don’t want to spend the rest of the race worrying that you have no spare left should you get another. In other words, for your peace of mind, take two.

I hope these suggestions help you have your best possible race.

My name is Ray and after years of trial and error and plenty of mistakes I hope by passing on what I’ve learned, I can help you reach your Ironman goals. I have built a website that is full of racing and training tips that you may find useful.

Practical Navigation Tips for Bareboaters pt. 1

Monday, April 27th, 2009

When Simon Scott was the CEO of The Moorings about
many years ago he told me his greatest concerns about
sailing skills regarding the company’s boats were
anchoring and navigation. Faulty anchoring practices cause
damage when dragging boats get tangled with other boats
and when they go aground. Faulty navigation can cause
grounding, occasionally bad enough to result in the total
loss of the boat. During the last 10 years technological
advancements have made both anchoring and navigation
easier for bareboat charterers. More mooring buoys in
bareboat locations and better windlasses have made
anchoring easier. More navigation aids and wide availability
of GPS has made navigation easier as well. Even with these
advancements, there are still a few losses of boats every
year. As rare as these events are and fortunately, human casualties are even rarer, I would like to offer a few tips to
make navigation easier and safer for bareboat charterers.
Normal bareboat chartering is limited to daytime sailing and
is almost always done within sight of land so navigation
under these conditions isn’t rocket science. But there are
some things you can do to make navigation easier and
safer. Following these suggestions will reduce stress and
make bareboat cruising more fun as well.

Take an Approved Navigation Course
Make sure your knowledge and skills in coastal navigation
are up to standard. Courses that teach to a national (or
international) standard are offered by ASA and US Sailing
schools, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and U.S. Power
Squadrons. The standards set for these courses generally
go beyond what you’ll need for bareboat chartering but
completion will give you confidence as well as the tools
you’ll need for successful bareboating.

In a typical Coastal Navigation course you can expect to
learn to:
* 1. Identify the chart symbols and explain the terms and
characteristics used for navigation aids including shapes,
colors, and lights used in the buoyage system.
2. Identify sources of official publications.
3. Select publications required for prudent navigation.
* 4. Use various instruments for navigation.
5. Use the tide and current tables to find times and heights
of tides at reference and secondary ports and direction and
rate of current at reference and secondary stations.
* 6. Convert courses and bearings between true, magnetic,
and compass.
7. Check compass deviation.
* 8. Plot dead reckoning positions.
* 9. Plot fixes by various means such as bearings, ranges
and
distance circles.
10. Plot running fixes.
11. Determine set, drift and leeway.
12. Compensate for the effect of set and drift or leeway.
13. Use danger bearings to determine if a vessel is
deviating
dangerously from a course.

* These are the skills you should be most prepared to use
during bareboat charters. Though not everything is on the
list is necessarily required during the average bareboat
charter cruise, passing such a course confirms a high level
of navigational competence that will give the bareboat
charter skipper the greatest confidence.

Pay Attention at the Chart Briefing
Listen and ask questions at the chart briefing at the
beginning of the charter and use your cruising guide during
the charter. The folks at the charter company are going to
know a lot more about the local sailing area than anyone
else and they want you to have a good time. The chart
briefing will provide lots of good suggestions about places
to go and will also let you know about places that are off
limits to the company’s charter boats. Sometimes a “red
line” chart is provided to highlight dangerous or off limits
areas. Heed the advice at the chart briefing, especially
regarding keeping out of a certain areas.

VoIP Is Moving to Wireless Applications

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

The world is making the move to wireless applications of all sorts. Users of computers and telephones are losing the plugs. The great inventors of the last century, Albert Einstein and Nikola Tesla knew that in the future the world would be a wireless one. The vision of these great inventors is now coming about as people are able to jump from one hotspot to another and are no longer bound by telephone cords and power outlets.

As men and women become more mobile, the demand for wireless technology continues to increase. Computers are portable, telephones are cellular, and now VoIP is enabling a entirely new family of wireless conveniences.

VoIP or Voice over Internet Protocol, transmits Packets (data filled information) over the Internet. VoIP can be used anywhere a broadband modem is connected to the internet, or with the integration of a suitable wireless network card, it may be connected over a wireless local area network.

Wireless technology or WiFi (Wireless Fidelity) is accomplished by the use of networks and access points. A wireless enabled device can access the Internet any time it has access to network signal. It is similar to radio signal and there is a range of operation known as a hotspot. A hotspot is an area where there is an access point (connection to the internet) facilitated by a wireless transmitter/receiver. It is possible for wireless users to basically hop from hotspot to hotspot and utilize a number of networks access points as they travel. This is known as lily padding and operates much the same as going from one cell phone tower to another.

There are, however, still important security issues that need to be worked out concerning the avoidance of viruses, Trojans, and worms from contaminating the wireless web and halting communications. When people can jump from hotspot to hotspot this leads to a essential need for stricter security rules and regulations. Protection is and will remain the number one concern for those involved in building the wireless world. But people want wireless technology. They need to conduct meetings while travelling and the ability to stay in touch with clients, customers, employees, and employers. The engineering community is addressing these needs as quickly as they can. The technology is developing rapidly and definitely faster than it can be regulated.

Wireless technology and VoIP technology have been merged to create another innovation-VoWiFi. VoWiFi is an acronym for Voice over Wireless Fidelity. VoWiFi phones are beginning to hit the market. They work like cell phones, except they use VoIP technology, (transmitting over the Internet) and are wireless, operating in a number of hotspots. Many of the major service providers are embracing VoWiFi technology. Currently Cingular has a VoWiFi plan available. Although this technology is still relatively new, we can anticipate to see a large increase in both products and service providers in the coming years.

A new technology, the Hybrid, is currently on the market, yet still in it’s early developmental stage. The Hybrid utilizes both cellular and VoWiFi. The advantage of a Hybrid phone is that it uses your network calling range as a cell phone. When you leave your range, you can avoid roaming charges by accessing a VoWiFi hotspot instead, thus avoiding those costly roaming charges. There are no roaming fees involved with VoWiFi. This is just one example of how the advances in wireless technology are creating new products. Verizon is said to be developing a VoWiFi phone, and many larger telephone companies are looking at WiFi as the direction of the future. Service providers who have dealt with one infrastructure for decades are now beginning to understand that technology is changing not only the future, but also the need for the products they have specialized in.

In the near future, we can expect to see many more access points opening up nationwide. With the integration of VoIP and wireless technology the future is a technological breakthrough that will allow us all to be more mobile while still keeping in touch with the important things that fill our lives.

PM Gordon Brown to be a Speaker at the Digital Britain Summit

Friday, April 24th, 2009

The plan of a 2Mb broadband access across Britain by 2012, promised by the Digital Britain report, is still to see some concrete action, with the government and Ofcom still in a deadlock on the spectrum allocation issue. This and several other major issues will be addressed at a summit to be held at the British library in London. The summit will see discussions on topics ranging from media to mobile broadband, and will set the direction for the future of communications in Britain.

Present at the meeting will be PM Gordon Brown, culture Secretary Andy Burnham, trade secretary Lord Mandelson and the communications minister, the man behind Digital Britain, Stephen Carter.

Media, telecoms and technology industry representatives are expected to be present in full force with the government hoping that these prominent personalities would help them arrive at a final decision concerning the future of Britain’s communication and would cause public interest to be awakened.

The Digital Britain report, which had been a major letdown, was far from decisive, and Lord Carter’s statement, which expresses hope for an ultimate decision from the views articulated by those attending the summit, is something to be looked forward to.

The attendees at the summit will be expected to share their opinions on the development of infrastructure as well as other measures to ensure that Britain can get the better of its international competitors.

Besides the above, the summit also looks set to study the role broadband can play to rescue the country from the onslaught of recession. Overall, this Digital Britain summit looks set to be in sharp contrast to the report that was issued earlier.

Essential Strategies To Make Your Web Copy Attractive To Your Target Audience

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

Reading on the web is different than reading in all other formats. People approach it differently and you need to have strategies that capitalize on those differences so you can connect with your prospects. Creating website copy that attracts your perfect clients, holds their attention and gets them to take action and connect with you should be your only goal when writing your website copy.

The words, on your page create a portrait of the content you offer and they are read as a picture. People usually don’t read from beginning to end on web pages unless they have already made a connection with you and know they like what you have to offer them; instead they scan.

So you will need to create a picture that interests them by using short paragraphs, which they can scan through to see the items that resonate with what they are looking for. You can use bullets, subheadings, and lists to get your benefit driven message across. You want to start with the most important message at the top of the page, and make sure you answer the marketing question “what’s in it for me” so your reader can clearly identify the solutions you are going to provide them.

The internet is a vast place with lots of information. Creating a sense of credibility is one of the first things you must accomplish to keep your visitor from clicking onto the next website. You can do this by the look and feel of the website. Make it professional looking and make sure it reflects your unique style and the passion you bring to your business. Having your complete contact information at the bottom of every page is not only convenient but makes people feel comfortable. You are willing to take ownership of your business and offer a variety of ways for people to contact you including your email, telephone, and mailing address. This is also handy when people print out an article or other information from your website, because your contact information is also printed out making it easier for them to contact you or to pass your information onto someone else who will also know how to reach you.

You only have about seven seconds to capture someone’s interest when they come to your website. In those seven seconds you want them to feel comfortable, see information that interests them, know what actions to take next, and get them to be a prospect by giving you their name and email address so you can build a long term relationship with them.

By being very clear on who your perfect niches are you can provide information that interests the people visiting your website. They will easily be able to determine if you have the solutions they are looking for, if someone they know might find it useful or if this is not the right place to find what they are looking for. This saves everyone a lot of time and energy.

Now that your visitor has determined you have the solutions they are looking for, they want you to clearly tell them the best actions to take. You can do this by offering different resources, products, samples of your work…. This is where the dual purpose call to action comes in. Remember because you are not there in person you need to capture contact information about your new visitor so you can turn them into a prospect and build a relationship with them. So the intention behind your call to action is to get their name and email address, to give them value for taking action, and to start leading them down a path that will be a valuable relationship for you and them.

If you have a service business you could do this by giving them an assessment to help them get clearer on what their challenges are and what solutions would be best. If you have a product business you could give them a sample so they can see the value for them in the products you offer. Of course you would ultimately like them to buy from you right then and there so they could get value and you could get their contact information and a sale. But you need to remember that your perfect clients come to you at different stages of readiness. So you need to have calls to action and follow ups to them as your new prospect that will give them value every step of the way as they move from their initial stage of readiness to where they become a customer.

The tone and voice you use when communicating with your visitors needs to be interactive, friendly, and convey something of you. A website is flat and impersonal so it’s important that visitors can get a sense of who you are and your business style when making the decisions of staying on your website and finding out more or moving on. Your tone and voice will also lend to your credibility and your passion for your business and how you want to be of service; both are very important for getting your visitors to take action and build a relationship with you.

Attraction marketing is about building a relationship not just making one sale. By using strategies in your writing that set: Tone, Voice, Credibility, Niche, calls to action, solutions, and passion you will attract perfect visitors and turn them into prospects so you can use follow ups to connect with them at their different stages of readiness and create a customer for life.

Graduate Hood

The graduate hood has been in existence since the 12th century, when the universities were developing. The regular dress code for scholars was dresses of clerics. The long types of gowns were important for warmness in buildings that were not heated.
Presently, the graduate hood can be a highly communicative constituent of the academic regalia. They express the graduate’ schools, field of study and degree via their binding hues, lining and length. The present day graduate hoods have come back from the serviceable articles of the clothes to a class of elongated scarves draped above the shoulders and falling on the backs with linings facing inside out.A UAA candidate of Masters Degree and graduate will get the graduate hood since the education attained is above the degree of baccalaureate. The University of Alaska colors of Anchorage include green and gold thus the hues on the hoods. The trims of velvet on the hoods symbolize the field of the scholar. For instance, a beneficiary of Master of Education will get his green and gold hood trimmed in a light blue shade and then a Master of Science receiver will get his green and gold hood trimmed in a golden yellow color.

Succeeding in Algebra

Monday, April 20th, 2009

An comprehensive research carried out to figure out the reasons behind school dropouts shows that many individuals look at algebra as the culprit. It is well said, that just the knowledge of the instructor is not alone enough to grow interest in the subject for the pupils. It’s the way; the subject area is explained to its recipient which leads a lot for developing interest in the subject area matters.

What is it?

A concise introduction of Algebra would be a subdivision of mathematics which substitutes letters for numbers; algebraic equation is a scale. The basic theories of algebra includes real numbers, complex numbers, matrices and vectors.

The Different Areas

Generally, algebra spreads across many domains of mathematics. Some that are worth mentioning are Multiplying exponents, dividing exponents, Solving quadratic equations , Finding Greatest common factor or GCM, Multiplying, Adding, Subtracting fractions and many more.

If these areas have shocked you, then I must give you some definitions which will really alleviate the gravity and give you the real effect of algebra.

Exponents are just shorthand for denoting multiplication of identical factors. Fractions are equally interesting and actually are used when representing numbers that describe the parts of a whole. Many such similar areas in algebra may sound dreading at first, but once you understand the simple concept behind it, you will be captured by its purpose. To state a few more – Mixed numbers, Quadratic formula , Graphing linear inequalities, solving compound in equalities , Factoring binomials, and Factoring polynomials; are all algebraic expressions.

I am sure it will be obscuring to understand mixed numbers, you may be surprised to find out that they are a type of fractions. Graphing linear inequalities states its function pretty clearly by its name. Similarly there are many other algebraic areas which are really interesting to work with.

How to Find a Tutor

If you want to quench your thirst for algebraic knowledge further and you do not have any private instructors there is nothing to worry about. Because There are online lessons too. These tutorials stress the practicalities rather than the theory, showing stable techniques. Algebraic helper software systems can assist you in the process of understanding and working through maths problems in a systematic, stepwise fashion while offering good examples and explanations for all steps involved.

Lose Your House or Lose Everything

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

Insolvency proceedings are a legal act that is filed by someone who is unable to pay her debt as agreed. Once bankruptcy is filed, all civil legal proceedings related to the home loan are halted. Legally, a mortgage lender has to terminate every collection action. But, a mortgage company may ask for relief from the required stay, and once it is allowed, may go on with the previously mentioned action. Bankruptcy will not halt foreclosure and you still must repay your home loan. Going into bankruptcy does not resolve the original problem; it only makes the foreclosure process go forward slowly.

Many times, people need to select between filing for bankruptcy or allowing their mortgage lender to foreclose their house. If monthly home loan payments are not made as scheduled, the bank can file a foreclosure on the property. The only guaranteed way to block foreclosure from occurring is to pay the lender on time. Foreclosure will be same for anyone who has not paid their house loan; the bank will kick your family out of the house and sell it to get back some of their loses. House loans are much similar to car loans, if you can not pay your monthly payments you might have it repossessed.

Even though bankruptcy can not permanently end foreclosure, it could allow a person enough time to pay back the over due or at a minimum it can make it little less difficult to to repay a lender. the insolvency process requires a lender to suspend foreclosure actions, a home owner has a bit of time to produce the money to pay back the lender. Bankruptcy is the last option for all borrowers. Eventually bankruptcy will come about when he is completely unable to satisfy their creditors’ commitments. Under insolvency, some unsecured debts will likely be discharged but the mortgage will remain. The home loan borrower must be willing to pay back the home loan inside the mandated time as the debt is secured by assets. Additionally, chapter 13 bankruptcy has a schedule of fees that will be ordered by the court, and allows the debtor make payments on his real estate loan to get up to date on their balance.

Insolvency is not a guarantee. The home owner has to fit distinct criteria to meet the conditions and if they do, there will be legal fees incurred. Possibly, it might cost more in legal fees than if they were to simply pull the belt tighter and continue making mortgage payments. If you know somebody that is of the mind that declaring bankruptcy can be a benefit to the situation, a good attorney might be capable of answering whatever questions. Because insolvency is really detailed, consumer really ought not attempt to do it without help from a a lawyer.
